What Is Going On: Saturday, May 14

Here's some good stuff for this Saturday.

-Los Angeles City Fire Department Station 20 holds an open house today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They call it a “Day of Service,” but what it means is that you and your kids can visit the station at 2214 Sunset Boulevard and, just maybe, climb up on those shiny red machines inside.

-The Echo Park PDA Artwalk takes over stretches of Echo Park Avenue and Sunset Boulevard from noon to 6 p.m. Establishments along those streets will be open and offering special deals and activities. For one, tells they'll have a spinning wheel on site, as well as piano music and great deals. Patch will be outside Blue Collar Dog on Echo Park Avenue. Click on the PDA website to print out a map of the route.

-Long-time Echo Park resident Ruben Martinez brings his Variedades cabaret to The Echo at 5 p.m. Literary and artistic colleagues will join him including Richard Montoya of Culture Clash and artist Carolyn Castano. This is the second incarnation of the monthly event.
