The Rain Came Down, the Power Stayed On

Echo Park and surrounding streets were flooded at times Sunday as heavy rains hit marathoners and locals. Storm, wind and flood warnings are now lifted, but weather will remain cloudy with a 50 percent chance of precipitation.

March is normally known for its winds.  But it looks like we’ll remember it this time around for water and wind. Heavy rains hit Los Angeles over the weekend, with storm drains doing their best to keep up.

Storm, wind and flash flood warnings  were in effect for much of L.A. County on Sunday. They've been lifted, though a high surf advisory remains in effect for Monday morning. The western parts of the San Fernando Valley and the Grapevine were hit the hardest, with power outages and high winds.

Gusts of up to 58 miles per hour were reported on Mount Washington Sunday afternoon.  But no power outages were reported in the area. Dried palms fronds, tree branches and other stuff will continue to fall,  so here are Los Angeles Department of Water and Power safety guidelines to have on hand just in case of an outage:

The LADWP is also urging folks to be sure they've turned off any automatic sprinklers Monday. There’s no need for any odd address watering given the current saturation level locally.

Rain is predicted to return Wednesday. That should keep the Los Angeles River swollen for a while.

I posted a bit of video in the Gallery shot a  few months ago in Elysian Valley after a December deluge. I always find it worth a view when the water kicks up.
