Teens Hold Book Sale to Benefit Echo Park Library

The event continues at the Central City Action Committee through Friday

The teens at Angeleno Heights’ are better known for their rummage sales, which help pay for the trips and other activities that help get them out in the world.

Through Friday, though, they’re selling books—a dozen for $5—to help raise money for a sister organization, the Echo Park Branch Library.

CCAC doyen Maryanne Hayashi says things are going well: the sale netted $102.50 on Wednesday and the overall goal is $250.

But the low ticket price on used books makes for slower going than rummage, she adds.

30 local youth are working at CAC this summer, helping out on graffiti crews and also with a beautification project along Sunset Boulevard in the grey zone between Echo Park and Silver Lake.

Hayashi says the teens work about ten hours a week and earn between $500 and $800 a summer.

Rummage Is The Real Moneymaker

They’ll hold their next rummage sale—which directly funds CAC programs--August 3 - 5.

Meantime, the book sale continues until Thursday at 6 p.m. and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at CCAC at 343 North Edgeware.
