Photo Gallery: Silver Lake Meadow Is Now Open to All

Gary Leonard was on hand Saturday when Council members Eric Garcetti and Tom LaBonge opened access to three acres of grass next to the Silver Lake.

City Council President Eric Garcetti, Councilmember Tom LaBonge and locals were there for long-awaited opening of the Silver Lake Meadow on Saturday.

So was Gary Leonard who snapped the accompanying photo gallery.

The Meadow includes more than three acres of green space around the Silver Lake Reservoir.

It will be available from dawn until dusk for passive recreation such as jogging, walking and strolling. 

Dogs are not allowed.

Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks will maintain the newly-planted green lawn, critiqued by some residents for using too much water.

The majority of funding for the Meadow came from voter-approved bonds. 

According to the Council District 13 office, the project cost approximately $1 million.
