In the survey, San Francisco's Mission District and Brooklyn's Williamsburg are next in line, with Chicago's Wicker Park and Portland's Pearl District rounding out the top 5.

Nextdoor.com, a neighborhood social network, compiled the rankings for Forbes, analyzing data including:

  • walkability scores
  • the number of nearby food trucks and farmers markets
  • the number of coffee shops
  • the number of locally owned bars and restaurants
  • the number of people who work in artistic jobs like artist, musician, designer, barista.

Silver Lake has become a bit of brand onto itself.

As one Patch reader noted, even the New York Times felt no need to gloss "Silver Lake" in a recent article, assuming national audiences knew where and what it was.
