Los Angeles River Clean Up Kicks Off

About 180 people are expected Saturday morning to help clean up along the Glendale Narrows stretch of the Los Angeles River near the 2 Freeway.

The volunteers in the Friends of the Los Angeles River's 24th Annual clean up will focus on two areas just north and south of the Fletcher Drive bridge, said Elizabeth Gallardo of the Glassell Park Improvement Association, which is hosting the site.

She said both sections are part of the new Glendale Narrows Recreation Zone opening next week to boaters, hikers and fishermen, so the clean up is particularly timely.

Volunteers received T-shirts and a safety talk before heading out with their buckets.

We will have an update about how things went with some more photos, so check back later on the site.
