Let Your Family Enjoy Arts, Literature -- and Puppets

Five fun family things for the upcoming week.

We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children. Each week, we'll give you the info on the five best family activities or events for the week. Look for the kids’ planner each Wednesday, and help us build the planner with your own suggestions and tips — just add them to the comment box. Even if you disagree with our picks, let us know. We want to hear from you!

From stories to puppets, there's lots going on in the neighborhood this week for you to enjoy with your family.  There's always time for a little bit of fun.

LACMA Family Art Class

Where/When: Thursday, Feb 3 at 4 p.m. at the Echo Park branch of the , 1410 W Temple St.

Why Go: Spend some together time creating artistic masterpieces with your kids while learning about art and artists.

Pricing: Free!

Story Time Fun Time

Where/When: Stories Books and Cafe, 1716 Sunset Blvd. today at 4:30 p.m.

Why Go: When the weather's nice, sing some songs and listen to stories out on the patio. Not so sunny?  Story Time moves inside to the comfort of the cafe.

Pricing: Free.  Snacks available for purchase.

Oh the Rhymes that You'll Use /When you Write Like Dr. Seuss Workshop

Where/When: 862 LA East, 1714 W Sunset Blvd.  on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Best for ages 6- 10, the workshop encourages and challenges kids to take their writing skills to the next level while also having fun.

Pricing: Worskhop is free, however a $20 deposit is requested to secure a place.  The deposit is refunded 100 percent upon attendance. 

Infant and Toddler Story Time

Where/When: , 2011 W Sunset Blvd., today and Feb. 9, 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. each day. 

Why Go: Time to play, learn reading and rhymes, and share books with friends and family aged 1 to 3 years.

Pricing: Free.

Magic Strings Marionette Show

Where/When: The Bob Baker Marionette Theater, 1345 W 1st St. Tuesday to Friday, 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.  Saturday and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Why Go: Magical and enchanting puppet extravaganza that was awarded "Best Children's Live Theater 2010" by LA Parent magazine.

Pricing: Tickets are $20 with children under 2 years of age free.
