'Howl-O-Ween' Dog Costume Pageant Trots Into Silver Lake Sunday

The dog Halloween costume contest kicks off in Silver Lake Sunday.

The popular dog costume contest Howl-O-Ween will return again to the Silver Lake Dog Park Sunday for its fifth year.

The annual event, which draws pooches of all shapes and sizes dressed in their Halloween best, kicks off at the dog park at 3 p.m.

According to organizers, the event is free and open to all dogs and their humans. Prizes will be given to all participants as well as the best dressed canines.

Last year's participants included dogs dress like such things as pumpkins, Super Man and even dinosaurs.

Registration for the event runs from 3-4 p.m. followed by the doggie costume pageant from 4-5 p.m. Participants should meet in the small dog area of the Silver Lake Dog Park.

The event is hosted by the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council, the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks and the Silver Lake Dog Park.
