GARAGE SALE GALLERY: Ron Athey Empties Out His Silver Lake Archive

The body art pioneer hosted a well-attended house sale on Saturday for fans and friends.

Performance artist Ron Athey lived in Silver Lake for decades.

Athey is perhaps best known for his confrontational works around the AIDS crisis.

He also worked at the L.A. Weekly when it was on Hyperion Avenue.

Athey's been spending most of his time the last few years in London. When he went, he left a vast collection of art, media and theater books in his Sanborn Avenue duplex.

Athey returned to Silver Lake recently to sort through the stuff and host a giant house sale on Saturday.

Echo Park Patch stopped by and picked up a great book on fanzines.

We also learned that Athey is still performing in Europe, having just recently done a show in Slovenia.

He also hinted that changing political climes in the U.S. might bring him back to work some time soon.

We shall see.
