The city’s 73 libraries were closed Mondays and service hours slashed to their lowest level in the library’s 140-year history in August 2010, following cuts to the library budget.
Voter-approved Measure L gradually restores library service hours to the 2009 level over the next four years by increasing the Library’s share of City funding without new taxes.
New library service hours starting Monday for Edendale, Echo Park and Silver Lake Branch libraries are:
Monday, Wednesday & Saturday: 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Tuesday & Thursday: 12:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Friday: 1:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Sunday & holidays closed
Councilmember Tom LaBonge (CD4) introduced the council motion that placed the measure on the ballot and served on the campaign committee for the measure, as did Council President Eric Garcetti (CD13).
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Garcetti, LaBonge and others are set to be at a press conference 9:30 Monday morning at the Central Library to kick off the expanded hours.
