Echo Park, Silver Lake Councilmember, LADWP Officials Celebrate the Start of the L.A. Aqueduct Centennial Garden

Construction began on Friday at the Mulholland Memorial Fountain for the new centennial garden.

Many gathered last Friday to break ground on the new Los Angeles Aqueduct Centennial Garden at the Mulholland Memorial Fountain in Los Feliz. L.A. City Councilmember Tom La Bonge of the 4th district (which includes Echo Park, Silver Lake), James McDaniel, senior assistant general manager of water systems at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) and community members came together to celebrate the start of the garden, which will feature elements marking the 100 years of the Los Angeles Aqueduct.

According to a press release from the LADWP, the  garden will have California Friendly landscaping and plants, walking paths, park benches and educational signage that depicts the Aqueduct’s 233 mile alignment. A rendering of the complete garden, an aerial sketch, and a plant palette are available for the community to view online.

This was the first of several activities to celebrate the centennial of the L.A. Aqueduct. For more information, visit www.LAAqueduct100.com
