Echo Park's Mighty Mushroom Lives On

The dictyocephalos attenuatus is now 22 days old and at least ten inches tall.

Echo Park resident Jeanne Wyshak sent us this latest photo of a giant mushroom hidden somewhere in Echo Park.

Nick-named "The Mighty Mushroom,"  fungus expert Steven Pencall identified it as dictyocephalos attenuatus.

It is now 22 days old and at least ten inches tall.

Wyshak created a Flickr gallery of the sprouting fungus and has been updating it every other day.

There's already been some talk on our site about what to do with the specimen after its time.

One commenter suggested it should be donated to science.

What do you think should happen to Echo Park's Mighty Mushroom?
