Concerns About Two Restaurants Addressed by a Silver Lake Neighborhood Council Committee
Umi Sushi and Cafe Stella were discussed at this week's meeting.
The Silver Lake Neighborhood Council's Urban Design and Preservation Committee voiced concerns about two, local restaurants at its meeting on Wednesday.
At issue is the former Reservoir restaurant, 1700 Silver Lake Blvd., which will soon become Umi Sushi, as well as Cafe Stella which is located at 3932 Sunset Blvd.
The committee members discussed Umi Sushi's "impact on neighbors and hours of operation," according to Scott Plante, committee chairman.
They recommended the restaurant close by midnight on Fridays and Saturdays and at 10 p.m. every other day. There were also concerns about traffic and noise levels, according to Plante.
"The Committee did understand the fact that Umi was a small scale restaurant on the location of a previous restaurant, and tried to balance the needs of our community members both business and residential," Plante said.
Some area neighbors have concerns about noise late at night at Cafe Stella as well.
"Nuisance and traffic during the week is already at intolerable levels with all the other bars operating within the neighborhood," Plante said.
While the discussion about Cafe Stella was tabled pending review of some neighbors' complaints, the committee recommended that Umi Sushi go before the full Silver Lake Neighborhood Council.
The Silver Lake Neighborhood Council's executive committee is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, June 19.
