Citizens of the World Charter Comes to Silver Lake Sept. 5

The new charter school will place its second and third grades at the Micheltorena Elementary School campus.

The Micheltorena Elementary School campus begins its balancing act next Wednesay, when two grades of the Citizens of the World Charter school launch.

The second and third grades of the globally-focused charter school will be based in five classrooms at the Sunset Boulevard campus.

The impact of the new school's arrival has concerned parents and others at Micheltorena, which has been showing signficant improvement under principal Susan Furfari.

They worry that CWC will divert students--and resources--from what is trying to be a community school.

Meantime, CWC is struggling with a school split over two campuses: its kindergarten and first grades will be based at Grant Elementary in East Hollywood for the time being.

Because your definition of "community" schools feature unelected boards and have exclusionary admission policies?
