CicLAvia Expanding into Echo Park
Organizers of the bicycling event announce its "Heart of LA" route will return in October.

CicLAvia, the organization that clears Los Angeles roads to make way for bicyclists, pedestrians and other non-motorized travelers, announced its roster of 2014 events Thursday, including its first South Los Angeles route.
For its first event of the year, CicLAvia will revisit its Wilshire Boulevard route on April 6 with its "Iconic Wilshire Boulevard" event, which will showcase the thoroughfare's museums, architecture and other cultural institutions.

The classic downtown route will also return for an Oct. 5 CicLAvia, this time expanding into Echo Park and East Los Angeles.
Organizers said their Dec. 7 CicLAvia event will take Angelenos through South Los Angeles' culturally and historically significant Leimert Park and the Central Avenue corridor.

The coming year will also see increased efforts by CicLAvia organizers to work with other cities and communities throughout the Los Angeles region, with the hope of setting up as many as a dozen "open street" events by 2017 outside the city of Los Angeles.
