Student writers of the 2012 Young Authors’ Book Project are giddy with delight -- and they should be, as they celebrate the 10-month journey from brainstorming to the publication of their novel A Ring of Sunshine Around the Moon.
Readers and writers and those who beg a new story are welcome Friday to the free party at The Last Bookstore in Downtown from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Andy Molnar, who worked as a partner teacher of the eleventh-grade student authors, collaborated with 826LA to develop a year of writing in the classroom that would parallel the students’ reading of J. D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye.
Students also wrote the book’s introduction, organized the material into chapters, and worked directly with the Los Angeles design firm Parallel Play to polish and place the visuals before sending the book off to press.
Friday's party will be a feast for bibliophiles, young and old. The line-up includes, student readings, a DJ set by students mentored by KCRW DJ Anthony Valadez, as well as a reading from Paul Feig‘s Foreword by actor, comedian, screenwriter, and director B.J. Novak.
Donations made will benefit 826LA and its free programs for Los Angeles youth including activities like the Young Authors’ Book Project.
