826 LA Helps Inspires Local Youth to Develop Creative Writing Skills
The non profit serves Echo Park and Mar Vista and is a Los Angeles subset of a national organization.
Last weekend, 32 Echo Park and Mar Vista students were honored for their completion of a pilot program that combined the creative writing of 826 LA and the Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics goals of Time Warner Cable’s philanthropic initiative, “Connect a Million Minds.”
But what is 826 LA?
Patch sat with Sam Randazzo, 826 LA Ambassador to find out what the organization does.
826LA is a non-profit organization who supports students grades K-12 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write.
The organization provides after-school tutoring, evening and weekend workshops, in-school tutoring,help for English language learners, and assistance with student publications.

They have an office at 714 W. Sunset Blvd. inside the Time Travel Mart. The Travel Mart sells time travel paraphernalia including a Ray Gun and can of mammoth chunks. All proceeds from the store go to 826LA.
