Five things to start off your week in Echo Park and Silver Lake.

Here are five things to start off your week in Echo Park and Silver Lake:

  1. With Thanksgiving over, it’s time to focus on Christmas, and the Los Angeles County Christmas tree will be dedicated at 5 p.m. on Monday. You can join Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich at the Los Angeles County Music Center as he switches on the lights of the 50-foot tree.

  2. The Silver Lake Neighborhood Council will hold its monthly Governing Board Meeting Wednesday beginning at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Micheltorena Elementary School Auditorium, 1511 Micheltorena Street. For a full agenda, visit the council's official website
  3. Today is Cyber Monday and Patch wishes you luck with your online shopping. By some estimates, we’ll collectively spend $1.8 billion today. Remember to protect your security with strong passwords and be careful what you click on. The Center for Internet Security offers more security tips.

  4. Save some of your money for #GivingTuesday, a national effort by the United Nations Foundation and the 92d Street Y in New York City. Donate to the charity of your choice. It may be your most important gift of the season.
  5. See something around town that needs to be reported on? Share any news tips or story ideas with me at John.Schreiber@patch.com.
