5 Things to Know: Shooting Death, Record Heat, IPA Festival

Here are five things to kick off your Friday and weekend in Echo Park and Silver Lake:

1. Police in Silver Lake continue to investigate the shooting death of Joseph Gatto, the father of California State Assemblyman Mike Gatto. Joseph Gatto was found dead Wednesday night having been shot in the stomach following an apparent home invasion. 
2. It was an unseasonably hot day in Echo Park and Silver Lake Thursday with record temperatures set across Southern California. Which cities broke records? Check them out here. 
3. Mohawk Bend in Echo Park kicks off its IPA Festival Saturday and will feature more than 60 California India Pale Ales from California brewers. Beers include some rare ones that are not normally seen on tap in Los Angeles. Check them out here.
