Wild Birds Have Their Day at Echo Park Lake
The Great Backyard Bird Count brought birders to Echo Park Sunday morning to contribute to the national project.
A small group circled Echo Park Lake Sunday morning--eyes skyward, books and binoculars in hand. They were looking for wild birds, the rarer the better, as part of the Audbon Society's 15th Great Backyard Bird Count.
The team, led by Judy Raskin, counted 27 different species by the lake. American coots topped the list, with over 300 in appearance. Also popular were rock pigeons and Western gulls.
Two different types of herons, as well as one red-tailed hawk and six yellow-rumped warbler were also on the list.
