Wife of Motorcylist Hit on Fletcher Drive Seeks Witness

William Hars spends 86 days in the hospital after colliding with an SUV on July 22. Another motorcylist waiting at the intersection may have seen what happened.

On Sunday morning at 9:15 am on July 22, William Wheelock was driving his vintage 1974 Honda CB 360 on Fletcher Drive to meet a friend in Pasadena.

He was struck head-on by an SUV driving west on Fletcher at the Estara Avenue intersection in Glassell Park.

A man in a pickup waiting at the north side of the intersection on Estara and a motorcyclist who had been waiting on south corner of Estara both rushed to William's aid. A pedestrian who had been crossing the street was also present when the police arrived.

These witnesses in the SUV interviewed by police reported that the SUV was in an accident with the motorcyclist waiting at the light at Estara.  William's wife Anne Hars thinks they never saw Bill on his small vintage bike heading down Fletcher.

She would very much like to locate the motorcyclist, who is described as a Hispanic, in his mid-20's, riding a ninja or ninja-like sports-bike in leathers.

He left the scene before he could be interviewed.

William was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena where he was on life support  and in a coma for nine days. He spent 86 days in hospital.

He suffered severe traumatic brain injury with amnesia and aphasia and many severely  broken bones. He is working hard to recover but he now needs long term outpatient physical and neurological therapy. He was scheduled to start outpatient treatment at Huntington Hospital this week
