Water Facts from the Wildwoods Foundation
Local kids learn these facts during workshops.
Echo Park and Silver Lake elementary school students take part in the" about water use and conservation. These are some of the facts that they learn during the field trip.
1. 75 is an important number to remember when thinking about the importance of water. 75% of the earth is made up of water, including oceans, ice and fresh water. 75% of our bodies, too, are made up of water. And 75% of Los Angeles water comes from elsewhere.
2. The average Los Angeles resident uses about 145 gallons of water a day. That’s almost twice the national average of about 70 gallons per day.

3. It takes 2.5 gallons of water to make a single sheet of paper. A gallon of milk takes 264 gallons. And a single pair of blue jeans requires 2687 gallons of water to manufacture.
4. The toilet consists of nearly 25% of your in-home water use. Other thirsty culprits are clothes washers, showers, faucets and leaks.
