'Hipster' High Speed Chase Brings CHP Again to Echo Park
The second CHP pursuit in a week sped through Echo Park and Silver Lake during rush hour. This time a truck headed into the Echo Park area from North Hollywood followed by officers.
Last Tuesday it was a CHP pursuit down Sunset Boulevard that startled residents during rush hour.
This Tuesday it was Glendale and Silver Lake boulevards and the surrounding neighborhoods that were under seige as a white truck sped through the area chased by officers.
The chase began in North Hollywood after a wrongful lane change. The vehicle continued down the 5 Freeway, eventually ending up in the Echo Park-Silver Lake hills.
The chase--carried live on KTLA--prompted some pretty laconic tweeting from locals including:
@pmsimon Hipster police chase in Silver Lake? Meh. It was better before it was on TV.
@ emilybelsey Real-life police chase in Silver Lake got me all riled up to watch #Southland. Half expected @Cudlitz to get out of the cop car...
@iwriteplays Oh great... Car chase in Silver Lake. I hope this doesn't mess with my ability to get to @popphysique on time!
According to KCBS, the truck is registered to someone on the 700 block of North Rosemont Avenue. This could explain the driver's route, perhaps to head back into that area.
The driver was eventually apprehended, instead, near the 5 Freeway after CHP officers performed a PIT maneuver--that is, hitting him with THEIR cars.
According to officials, the truck did not appear to be stolen.
We'll have more details as they unfold.

It was most exciting. I live on the west hill & thru the window i could see and hear the helicopters and police cars across the lake and at the same time i saw it on tv from the sky. great tour of the hills, real street theatre. Kinda began to respect the guy, he drove with such coolth.
