Silver Lake Shoemaker Dead at 79
Victor Khacherian founded La Gondola shoe repair in Silver Lake in 1977. He passed away on Aug. 6 at 79, leaving the shop in son George's good hands.

It's been exactly a month since Victor passed away at 79 after complications from a stroke.
He was buried in Forest Lawn.

Victor Khacherian founded shoe repair in 1977, soon after coming to America with his family from Armenia.
He saw the area change a lot, says his son ruefully.

La Gondola's clientele reflects Silver Lake's diverse mix, with Prada shoes and work boots getting the same attention and always at reasonable rates.
George now runs the business day-to-day, but long-time patrons know that Victor was always about too.
George says he'll keep on keeping on as long as rents and business let him.
