Silver Lake Resident Scott Crawford First to Declare for Garcetti's CD 13 Seat
The actor and businessman officially declared his candidacy Monday to replace Eric Garcetti, who is running for L.A. mayor.
Actor, businessman and community activist Scott Crawford officially announced his candidacy Monday to replace Eric Garcetti on the City Council.
Garcetti is termed out of office and is running for mayor.
Sen. Kevin de Leon, D-Los Angeles, is considering entering the race, but, according to a spokesman, is waiting until after the city's redistricting process is finished.
Mitchell O'Farrell, a long-time staffer of the Council District 13 office, is also expected to run.
O'Farrell was the grand marshall in the recent Echo Park Holiday Parade.
Read our recent interview with O'Farrell here.
The election is not until March 5, 2013, the same day that the city will vote for its new mayor in a race that is expected to attract national attention.
Crawford, who has served on the boards of a range of civic and cultural organizations, cited his experience with planning and land use, historic preservation, health services, sustainability and housing.
Crawford is currently on the board of the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council Governing Board.
Check back at the site for an interview with Crawford we'll be posting shortly.

DeLeon wants to wait for the redistricting so he can decide where to move to next!! So ridiculous. Can't he stay in 1 office for more that 2 years??? These politicos who play musical chairs should be banned. Complete you assignment you campaigned for, then move on. There should be an ethics law about musical campaigners who never actually complete the service they get elected to IMO!

I've watched the Kevin DeLeon show in person. Everyone in this special and creative zone of Los Angeles should prepare to support a more appropriate candidate. If DeLeon takes his show on the road here he would be well-funded and has lots of cards to play but ultimately he'd be using us as a mirror pointed to a higher office...Mitch O'Farrel on the other hand is first and foremost a public servant: skillful, honest, and focused. He's what local politics are all about...a guy who started as a community activist and got the bug to improve things, spent years learning the ropes by working in a Council office. He's now ready to graduate to taking on a bigger role. Those who work with him (City Council folks, Neighborhood Council folks, community folks) know that Mitch is the guy who does return the phone call and get things done!
