Silver Lake Crime: Home Burglaries Spike in May

About half involved entry though an unlocked window or door.

Summer's the time we open our windows (and sometimes our doors).

If you live in Silver Lake north of Sunset, you now have another reason (besides the sound of choppers) to think twice before doing so.

Home burglaries were way up in May, according to data gathered by LAPD's Northeast Division.

Al Polehonki of Northeast, says there were 14 in May. Rampart Division officer Mario Mota says five occurred in the last week alone.

Most occurred between Sunset Boulevard and Rowena Avenue on the north and south, and Micheltorena Street and Lakeshore Avenue on the east and west.

Polehonki notes there was no specific pattern by time or day of the week. But most occurred between 5:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.--daylight hours.

Polehonki says about half involved entry through an unlocked window or door.

In a recent incident, a suspect and his car were spotted, which may help the uniformed and plainclothes officers working on the case.

The suspect is described as being in his 30s, driving a Gold Honda Accord from 1998-2000 with partial license plate 6AV_703.

LAPD's Northeast Division can be reached at (213) 344-5701 if you have information that would help with the investigation.
