Should L.A. Consider A Ban on Cars with 'For Sale' Signs?

L.A. County has moved quite close to putting such a ban in place. Should Echo Park--and the city--follow?

Earlier this week, the Los Angles County Board of Supervisors moved one step closer to banning  the practice of parking cars with “for sale” signs” on selected streets.

It allows officers to impound cars that seem to have been parked somewhere mainly for advertising purposes or an extended period of time.

They will vote soon on a final version that allows for more flexibility in adding other streets.

But it can set a mood for similar kinds of action at the city level, said Joel Bellman, press deputy for Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, whose Third District includes Atwater Village and parts of Los Feliz.

"We want to be a model," he said. "We want cities to act."

"That way we can move toward a consistent regulatory system across the Los Angeles area," he added.

Perhaps there is a case for a similar ordinance in L.A.

What do you think?

Or should we be thinking about getting in line with the new plastic bag ban first?
