Poll: 57 Percent Say Highland Park Is NOT the New Echo Park

On Friday we delightedly referenced Kai Flanders' L.A Weekly piece that suggested the epicenter of cool may be shifting from Echo Park to Highland Park.

After reading the piece we did our Patch thing and immediately posted a poll asking, "Is Highland Park the new Echo Park?"
We, like the majority responding so far, don't think so. But we do think it's a great question that will help clear the air about whether Echo Park is losing its edge.

Well, both neighborhoods have a high percentage of 1st and 2nd generation Latino immigrants mixed with yuppies and hipsters, but EP has a very long history of political activism and progressive thinking. It has also has been a haven for creativity and the arts for generations. I think Highland Park and Echo Park are two very distinct communities. Viva la diferencia!

I agree with Cheryl and let's not count out the geography; EP is much closer to downtown and Hollywood, easily bike-able, and of course, the Park itself, the lake (when we get it back, hopefully with lotus!).

@Great point Ann. EP's links to Hollywood and downtown are very important, and certainly add to the complexity of its identity. There's so much flow through to those two areas.
