Update: More Candidates Emerge for Garcetti's Seat

The Council District 13 race heats up as two new candidates enter the fray.

Update: Early Saturday morning, Josh Post issued the following statement on his candidacy:

I am running for City Council because I want to get back to what public service is supposed to be--focusing on the people, the neighborhoods, the small business owners, the Metro riders, the cyclists—the people who make this city so great.
I began my career in City Hall working under Mayor James Hahn as an advocate for afterschool programs.  I am an advocate for my neighbors and the environment, and, as an attorney for the State of California, I advocate in the courtroom. Sure, I have policy goals like my passion to reform the City’s stranglehold on small business, but it boils down to service to community.  It's all about listening, understanding, and responding to the needs of the people.  That’s what motivates me.

Previously: Council District 13, which includes large portions of Echo Park and Silver Lake, is facing changes. Current representative Eric Garcetti is termed out of office, after three terms. While Garcetti announced his candidacy for the Mayor’s office, others are now stepping forward to run for his seat on the council.

The Eastsider reported earlier today that two new candidates have joined the race. Rueben Martinez of Atwater Village and Josh Post of Echo Park filed to run. They join two other candidates, who already filed their paperwork. They are Scott Crawford of Silver Lake and Mitch O’Farrell of Glassell Park.

CD13 is also facing redistricting. Local residents can be part of that conversation on January 9, 2012. The Los Angeles Redistricting Commission is hosting a public hearing. The event is at Los Angeles City College, at 855 N. Vermont Avenue, and runs from 6:30 to 9:30 in the evening.
