Man in Critical Condition After Shooting in Downtown Echo Park

According to police, the incident happened just after midnight Saturday morning at the corner of Logan Street and Sunset Boulevard.

Clubgoers were shocked early Saturday morning by a shooting near the corner of Logan Street and Sunset Boulevard that has left one man"very critically injured."

According to Lt. Michael Mabie of the Los Angeles Police Department's Rampart Division, the young man was shot from behind as he was running west on Sunset Boulevard around 12:30 a.m. Saturday. He collapsed at the corner of Logan Street and Sunset Boulevard.

Mabie called the shooting a "through and through"--the bullet entered the man's back and left through the front of his body.

Mabie said the victim is now at  L.A. County USC Medical Center.

Lt. Mabie said the victim is "not gang affiliated."

No word yet on whether the shooter or his companions are in custody.

But police interviewed several witnesses on the scene, which shut down Sunset Boulevard for a while as police and fire gathered.

The shooting startled crowds on the busy Friday night.

They looked on over police lines as squad cars and other emergency vehicles flooded the area, according to South Pasadena Patch editor Kristin Lepore, who was in the area and took the accompanying photos Saturday morning.
