Healthy Foods Mart Erewhon Targets Silver Lake Area

Many Echo Park and Silver Lake residents have been hoping for another natural option on the Eastside since Nature Mart closed this fall.

Conversation has been animated on Facebook and local listservs about the chance organic and natural food market Erewhon might come to the Eastside.

We reached out Wednesday to Tony Antonic, Erewhon's president, who says "yes."

The firm is "looking for a location in Silver Lake and surrounding areas" of "approximately 10,000 square feet."

Antonic says they hope to open "ASAP."

He says anyone with information about such a space can contact him via email at erewhonfeedback@yahoo.com, or by phone at (310) 968-8766 or (310) 300-0632.

Erewhon has been doing business in Los Angeles since the mid-1960s and currently has a store on Beverly Boulevard in the Grove.

Many have hoped for a second location on the Eastside, especially since

Some have been boycotting the new tenant over its support of Prop. 8.

There have also been pickets.

On Wednesday, when we visited, business at Lassen's seemed brisk enough, with fully-stocked shelves, lines at the cashier and a full parking lot outside.

As promised, the bulk bins have been moved and fully-renovated, though the original Nature Mart signage remains outside.
