Griffith Observatory Bets World Won't End Dec. 21

The Observatory will stay open as midnight strikes, thumbing its nose at the end of the world predicted by the Mayan Calendar.

 

They are fearless up at the Griffith Observatory.

The Mayan calendar predicts the world will end on midnight of December 21.

The Observatory normally closes at 10 p.m. but it will remain open an extra 121 minutes on Dec. 21 until 12:01 a.m. Dec. 22 to see what's what.

The plan's to show that there's no celestial mishegas that will ruin us when the clock strikes midnight.

The observatory will offer extra shows in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium at 9:45 and 10:45 p.m.

Many are expected at 2800 East Observatory Road in Los Feliz.

Access roads will close as soon as the lot is full and no later than 10 p.m.
