Dog Walker Recounts Finding Severed Head Up Bronson Canyon

Lauren Kornberg told KPCC's Madeline Brand she initially thought the head was a Hollywood prop.

It was a professional dog walker and her mother who notified authorities after a golden retriever broke away from a pack of nine dogs and uncovered a severed head in Bronson Canyon Tuesday, reports KPCC.

Lauren Kornberg, who grew up in the Hollywood Hills, said she was out on a routine walk just a couple miles away from the iconic Hollywood sign when the golden retriever brought back an unrecognizable object.

"He had shredded the bag and had something in his mouth, which he dropped. And it rolled 30 feet down a hill and into a ravine," Kornberg recalled.

Kornberg said she initially thought it was a realistic prop. Her mother went down into the ravine to get a closer look and realized that there was no mistaking it was a severed head.

"Even as we got closer, we still couldn't say for sure whether it was ... real, until my mom was literally about a foot away, face to face, and could see bloody hair and eyeballs and eyelashes and gasped and said 'It's real, oh my god, it's real,'" Kornberg said.

Needless to say, Kornberg says she plans to stay away from Bronson Canyon until she can get the image out of her head.
