CD 13's Eric Garcetti Says He Will Run for Mayor

The long-time Echo Park and now Silver Lake resident filed his paperwork Thursday morning.

LA City Council District 13's Eric Garcetti is ready to run for mayor.

He filed the required paperwork Thursday morning.

Garcetti posted this message soon after on his Facebook page:

I made it official this morning and took out papers to run for Mayor. I love LA--the best city in the world--and it is time for focused leadership, innovation, and a vision to inspire this city. I hope to earn your support as we approach Election Day. Together, let's put LA back on top.

Garcetti joins a field that includes City Controller Wendy Greuel and City Councilwoman Jan Perry.

ANNOUNCEMENT IS NO SURPRISE

The move isn't a surprise, though the timing is a little bit unexpected.

The City Council president had hinted this summer that he would probably wait until the fall to make any kind of a decision.

He has represented CD13--which includes Echo Park, Silver Lake, and part of Hollywood--for three terms, and will be termed out in 2012.

Garcetti, 40, was born at Good Samaritan Hospital and raised in the San Fernando Valley.

He attended Columbia, where he got his bachelor and masters degrees. He is fluent in Spanish, and has taught at Occidental College.

He currently lives in Silver Lake with his wife Amy.

Garcetti also lived in Echo Park for many years.

I am not happy about Garcetti running for mayor. For almost 2 years I tried to get his office to take care of a dangerous tree we have in our street and was told his office was unable to do anything about it. I figure that if he is unable to have a dangerous tree trimmed in his area (Silverlake)--how can he run the City of L.A.? He should have care of his own "House" first----I can see L.A. getting worse.....

What a joke. We will make sure no one in Echo Park votes for him. He is all about himself and his cronies. The princesses at this office are always on break and takes days before you can get a return call from anyone in that office.....and he wants to run the city of L.A., really?

I think Garcetti sucks. He’s all bout shallowness. He’s all about self-promotion, never misses a photo op. And he has done little for the district. He touts himself as the great liberal, but rousts the homeless and throws them in jail. He undermines renters and sides with landlords at ever turn (he even IS a landlord, and a gouging one at that, renting his former Echo Park house for around $4,500 a month! I have to wonder if that is a campaign contributor — or should I say briber — paying such exhorbitant rent.) He won’t even do anything for Elysian Park, using the smoke screen that it is out of his district (it is a border issue that has always been fair game for both districts. It also is a regional park, which is fair game for all), but watch him cross district lines for his photo ops every time there is a homeless person to roust around Silver Lake or a police action to support and take credit for -- whether he had anything to do with it or not.

Garcetti was a carpet bagger, moving into Echo Park in preparation to run for the Council seat about to be open. Now with his last term winding down, he has moved out of Echo Park.

Garcetti is too often absent from Council meetings, always having some place else more beneficial to him to go or some other job he can make even more money at, like being an actor on daddy's TV show, even as he is paid his extremely bloated Council pay yet fails to show.

Garcetti sucks.

After 12 years of raising taxes and running businesses out of Los Angeles now in his last moments he wants to cut taxes? What? This last minute effort will not help him when he runs for mayor.
