Snapshot of Echo Park: Cache is Caught in the Act

Los Angeles-based graffiti writer Cache spray-painted his signature chickens on a giant new mural on Sunset Boulevard.

As the sun set on Sunday night, the graffiti writer who goes by the street name Cache raced to finish up his newest artwork. You've probably seen his bubble-style chickens on walls around town. This time, he was painting a giant mural complete with multi-colored chickens and one fat cat on a wall on Sunset Boulevard on the border of Silverlake and Echo Park.

Cache and two other painters selected cans, climbed ladders and spray-painted, while a small band of onlookers gathered to watch. Hailing from a graffiti crew called K4P, the Los Angeles-based artist has been writing graffiti for about 20 years. He started painting his signature chickens in 2001.

"I paint throughout the city of L.A. from Hollywood to South Central, I don't discriminate when it comes to walls," he said. "I live and breathe bicycles and painting and the projects that I like to create vary according to my mood. Sometimes I'm very political and sometimes I just want to make you smile."

You can find Cache's artwork everywhere from Mexico to Massachusetts with lots of local examples to boot--you can learn more about him and his take on chickens here.

And if you missed the show the first time around, Cache plans to put the finishing touches on the mural on Tuesday.

If you have lived in silverlake for the last 30 + yrs as I have you would know murals are a part of its culture and as with anything, you can love or hate it. One thing for sure though, is if you are a hater don't live in silverlake.
